La construction de base se compose d'une chambre cylindrique étanche contenant une butée solidaire et un arbre sur lequel est montée une palette. C'est la pression appliquée sur l'un ou l'autre des côtés de la palette qui fait tourner l'axe. Le couple est proportionnel au nombre de palette, à pression égale.The output torque developed is determied by the dimmensions of vane/shaft, the number of vanes, and the fluid pressure applied. Speed of rotation is dependent on the flow capacities of the hydraulic system. The majority of actuators are constructed with one or two vanes. The torque output is proportional to the number of vanes.
